Sean Bell’s Dowland Downloaded - Re-imagine something old

Sean Bell og Performance Art Bergen inviterer til et musikalsk og performativt samarbeid som utforsker nytolkning av det gamle. Med Sean Bells prosjekt Dowland Downloaded som musikalsk og performativ rammeverk blir et knippe performance kunstnere fra PAB invitert til å reflektere over det gamle og fortiden. Kunstnerne reagerer og reflekterer i sanntid på sangene som Bell fremfører. Musikken skaper et spesielt tolkningsrom og en overordnet form for samarbeidet. I dette rommet tolkes og skapes en ny refleksjon rundt renessansemusikk, historiske objekter og fortiden gjennom samarbeidet mellom kunstnerne.

Sean Bell’s Dowland Downloaded
Sean Bell presents the album Dowland Downloaded, an exploration of the music of the British songwriter and lutenist John Dowland (1563-1626) through a contemporary art pop expression. What happens with the music when the renaissance lute is substituted with a DIY synth? Will it lose its original meaning and aesthetic and only serve as a fragile frame for some wacky synth-pop arrangements? Or could we discover new layers of meaning and different ways of communicating through alternative performance practices?

Armed with a self-built electric baroque guitar and a cassette player, countertenor and performance artist Sean Bell creates his own world from Dowland’s timeless texts and music.

Performance Art Bergen’s OPEN SESSION
Open Session titled "PAB OS" is a free and experimental art space, open to all artists, performers, and audiences interested in Performance Art. Since the autumn of 2012, PAB has organized a wide range of Open Sessions in public spaces, where members and visiting colleagues have taken part.

PAB Open Session presents performances in public spaces, inspired by Bbeyond’s monthly meetings in Belfast. The concept is inclusive and open, providing performance artists with an arena to test new ideas and to work freely with their intuition and with one another. We also aim to encourage and promote exchange between different forms ofimprovisation — among artists, dancers, musicians, actors, vocalists, and, above all, those who cross these art forms and improvise across disciplines and human connections.
